LOS ANGELES (June 2009) – Staron® Surfaces, a division of worldwide technology leader Samsung, was recently honored with the SCS Material Content Certification for seven of its surfacing products.
The certification, issued by Scientific Certification Systems, a leader in certifying independent environmental claims, recognizes Staron® for the use of recycled material in several of its acrylic surfacing options. The certification was awarded on the following Staron® solid surface products:
Staron® Pebble Seastar – Minimum 5% Pre-Consumer Recycled Resin and Chip Content
Staron® Aspen Mine – Minimum 10% Pre-Consumer Recycled Resin and Chip Content
Staron® Aspen Snow – Minimum 10% Pre-Consumer Recycled Resin and Chip Content
Staron® Pebble Basalt – Minimum 25% Pre-Consumer Recycled Resin and Chip Content
Staron® Sanded Wheat – Minimum 25% Pre-Consumer Recycled Resin and Chip Content
Staron® Pebble Fennel – Minimum 30% Pre-Consumer Recycled Resin and Chip Content
Staron® Sanded Noir – Minimum 30% Pre-Consumer Recycled Resin and Chip Content
The SCS Material Content Certification verifies that Samsung is working responsibly to minimize environmental impact during the manufacturing process. Using recycled content helps conserve energy and resources, alleviates pressure on landfill space and reduces the need for transportation during certain phases of a product’s life cycle.
“The fact that three of our existing products, plus four new products, contain recycled content is one of many benefits commercial and residential users will experience with Staron®,” says Dale Mandell, Staron®’s North America Sales Director. “Staron® solid surfaces have already earned two GREENGUARD certifications as low-emitting interior building products, which further demonstrates Samsung’s focus on improving the well-being of our environment.”
Products certified by SCS as containing recycled materials can help meet the criteria for LEED MR 4.1 and/or MR 4.2 as specified by the U.S. Green Building Council. Architects and designers who specify building components for LEED projects prefer third-party certified products such as Samsung Staron® solid surfaces.
